Sidewalk Repair Motion City & State Updates

Update: A draft ordinance is at the City Attorney where if given notice you would have 60 days to make repairs to sidewalks and driveways due to tree root damage. The draft ordinance will include language that if you fail to make the repairs the city will do so and charge an additional 40%, attach a lien to properties to collect. The Bureau of Street Services is scheduled to conduct a series of outreach meetings with neighborhood councils during July but so far no neighborhood councils have been contacted so we think this effort is now delayed. Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes Bill passed the State Assembly and is in State Senate Committee now with an amendment that the bill could not pass without a vote of the voters in California. LA City Council voted to oppose the bill. The average sidewalk repair is $3,500-$7,000. Councilman Alarcon is requesting addresses for sites needing repair from tree root damage. Please submit specific addresses to his office at 818-352-3287. STNC will continue to announce this in the week's ahead but your help to spread the word is appreciated.
