City Council Redistricting coming to Sunland-Tujunga

The City Council has appointed a commission to review re-drawing the City Council Districts to balance the number of constituents equally.  This process takes place every 10 years after each Census.  This is our time.  Council District 2 has had an increase in population so the commission will be looking to re-draw the lines for our Council District.  Currently Paul Krekorian is our Councilman.

The LA City Redistricting Commission is on the fast track and they will be conducting outreach meetings in each Council District.  CD2's is on Monday, December 12 at North Valley City Hall.

Please outreach to your neighbors, school organizations, non profits, homeowners groups, etc. to attend this meeting.  The STNC will be assisting with outreach throughout the Sunland-Tujunga community to make sure all know about this meeting and encourage participation.

Final Report for the Neighborhood Council Regional Governance Motion

Here is the final report for the Neighborhood Council regional governance system. The only changes DONE made were to update the Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils' plans for a Resource Board and include the possibility of setting up a regional administrative system for elections if the Department were to conduct elections in 2012.  The changes are highlighted below in yellow.

Final Report for the Neighborhood Council Funding Program

Here is the final report for the Neighborhood Council Funding Program. {Click on Link above} The only changes DONE made were to correct the number of funding work group members and clarify how the Neighborhood Councils' general consensus regarding a grant based funding program was that they did not want it.  The changes are highlighted below in yellow.

Final DONE Report for the NC Grievance Motion

Here is the final report for the Neighborhood Council training motion. (Click Link above) The only changes DONE made were to the highlighted areas below in yellow, which updated and clarified the availability of trainings the Neighborhood Council leaders and the Department have or will provide as well as some consequences Neighborhood Councils have used for Board members who do not take trainings.

-People must report crimes, even minor ones.  The way the police cars and officers are assigned to areas is by need.  If crimes are NOT reported it will appear as if patrols are not needed.  Any crime, even 'minor ones' need to be reported.

-There is a new Parolee Unit.  As we all know, criminals are being kept in jail for only a small portion of their sentences.  To keep track of them a new parolee unit is been checking up on them, unannounced.  Any parole violations cause the person to be sent back to jail.

-Officer Martinez along with Graffiti Busters, Mental Health services and the Homeless Authority did a sweep on Sunland Park.  One homeless woman, Heather, was placed on housing.

-There have been an increased number of burglaries in the Sunhill Estates (this is the area near Sunland Park and Angeles National Golf Course.Foothill and Sunland Blvds).

-There is a new program to try to stop the organized stealing of recyclables.  Apparently there is at least one white van that drops off up to 6 people who then steal from our blue bins.  If you see this van, or any vehicle, used in stealing recyclables, write down the license plate number and report the information to: Mary.Benson@lacity.org (818) 755-7676.  When this information is gathered it will be decimated to the recycling centers and IF they take accept any stolen recyclables, their business license will be revoked.
