Passing of Jerry Friedman - Long Time S-T Community Advocate

Jerry Friedman passed away on
Tuesday morning, July 15th.

Jerry entered Citrus Valley Hospice on July 2nd.
His wife Lorraine, son Michael, daughter Lori and
grandchildren Katrina & Jessica spent many hours
by his side, before he passed.

In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of service, the family suggests a donation so sports equipment can be purchased for Verdugo Hills High School and given out by the Sunland-Tujunga chapter of Kiwanis – the service organization Jerry belonged to for over 30 years.

House Tour Monday 7/21 at 6:30 p.m.

Meet at the corner of Commerce Avenue and Valmont (outside Bolton Hall) on Monday, July 21 at 6:30 PM to participate in the RFA House Tour "field trip". We will caravan from Bolton Hall with as many of us who wish to ride together, return to Bolton Hall. After the tour we will move on to North Valley City Hall for the DAC meeting -- agenda posted on front page of STNC site.

Freeman Baldwin has presented to the DAC and STNC an outline of what has taken place up to now including the past and current mansionization FAR/ICO and the new citywide Baseline Mansionization Ordinance. Also, what we need to consider in our recommendation to the City regarding the new Residential Floor Area District being proposed for Sunland-Tujunga. This RFA District will replace our existing FAR/ICO which expires mid September 2008.

Plan to join us for this short (approx. 45 min) tour of these sites. We will then return to North Valley Neighborhood City Hall for some Q&A and continue with our DAC meeting agenda at 7:30 p.m.

Milena Zasadzien is the City Planner working on our RFA. Milena will have the staff report ready sometime during the first week of August and will send us a copy for advance review. Milena is also scheduled to present to the full STNC board at the Aug. 13 STNC meeting. The public hearing before the City Planning Commission is scheduled for August 28.

City Attorney Dispute Resolution Update

IMPORTANT - Re: Proposed Home Depot in Sunland - Received today - July 15, 2008 - Letter from the City Attorney's Dispute Resolution Program Director, Avis Ridley-Thomas asking for stakeholder groups which should be represented at an initial meeting to begin the process of achieving some understanding of the issues in the matter. The Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council (STNC) and our community have been actively involved in this major quality of life issue since before the K-Mart store closed in 2004.
