Call to Action -Message from the Save the Golf Course Sub-Committee

If approved, the Verdugo Hills Storm Water Project could provide funds to buy the Verdugo Hills Golf Course and its surrounding property. It would maintain the golf course as a public recreational facility, and implement methods to capture, cleanse and store storm water, provide flood protection, increase water conservation, enhance habitat protection, and preserve open space. 

How can I help?

Email Paul Krekorian and Richard Alarcon.  Emails can be brief.  You just need to let them know you want the VHGC preserved and the storm water project to move ahead.

What happens if we don’t save the Verdugo Hills Golf Course?

A developer plans to build 229 houses on the property.  That means hundreds of additional cars & trucks using Tujunga Canyon Blvd., La Tuna Canyon Road, Honolulu Avenue, and the 210 Freeway.  Plus the loss of recreation, open space, wildlife, and watershed protection.

At last night's Land Use Committee the idea of forming a new Neighborhood Improvement Committee was discussed and we now have interested volunteers!

Below is the info on this "now forming" Ad-Hoc committee.  If you would like to join, please contact me at secretary@stnc.org  -- A committee meeting will be held on Monday, April 2 at 6 PM (prior to the next LUC meeting).

The committee will be ad-hoc (it could become standing later)

What will the committee do ? 

Focus on a particular area or issue every month or two months (example:  Billboards)

Issue a letter / make contact with property owners, tenants, city departments, council district office staff, others

All committee members will be trained

Carry an ID card w/photo

Take photos

May or May Not Take on the New Trees Planing project along Foothill

Locking Trash Bins

Daniel Hackney, Environmental Supervisor II with the LA City Bureau of Sanitation gave a presentation on locking trash bins at our last STNC meeting.  Unfortunately, the City does not have a plan set in motion to provide locked trans bins.  Several neighbors are interested in finding a solution to this problem and Mr. Hackney is interested in hearing from you.  Please send any ideas, inquiries, questions to Daniel.Hackney@lacity.org or contact him at 213-485-3684.

Verdugo Hills Golf Course Prop O Update

The Verdugo Hills Storm Water Project Report could be presented to the Prop O Citizens Oversight Advisory Committee [COAC] as early as next week. The COAC Meeting Agenda may not be published until later this week and we wanted to give you a quick head’s up.
