Next Tuesday, the City Council's Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee considers the Motion introduced by Council Member Richard Alarcon to nominate the Verdugo Hills Golf Course site in Tujunga as a City Historic-Cultural Monument given its historical significance as the former Tuna Detention Station. The Agenda was just released and is attached.

This is the first step in the process and we anticipate that the Committee will formally instruct the Department of City Planning to proceed with gathering information and evidence in support of the nomination.
The Committee will refer the matter to the Department of City Planning. Once the Planning Department has compiled pertinent research, it will present its findings and recommendations at a future meeting of the City's Cultural Heritage Commission - meeting date yet to be determined. Our office will still need the assistance of community members and historians to compile information and forward to the Planning Department to help build a compelling case for designating the site as a Cultural-Historic Monument.
The upcoming PLUM Committee is a public meeting and community stakeholders are invited to provide testimony for the official public record. There will be other future opportunities for testimony, the most critical being when the matter goes before the Cultural Heritage Commission. Our office will be tracking progress.
