The bad news is the Committee spent the first half hour of the meeting discussing how they did not have nearly has much surplus funds (now estimated at $7.2 million) as they thought they had. In addition, they did not have a quorum, so no vote was taken on the project. To be fair, the $7.2 million is a very conservative estimate. And they are not including estimated savings from projects partially completed, those just getting under way, or those which haven’t started yet.
Thank you to Karen Zimmerman for all her hard prep work and the consistently wonderful email blasts and website, Rich Toyon for an outstanding presentation on the value of the VHGC site to Native Americans, Andrea for keeping us company and providing moral support, Craig Kessler of the SCGA for a great presentation on golf course benefits, and Rich Atwater for his timely email on behalf of the Southern California Water Committee in support of the project. In attendance from Sunland-Tujunga were Elaine Brown, Joe Barrett, Tomi Lynn Bowling, and Nina Royal.
Special thanks goes to Deborah Deets of the Bureau of Sanitation who prepared the presentation to the Committee and is a real champion to our cause.
Both Paul Krekorian and Richard Alarcon addressed the Committee at the outset of the meeting. Mr. Alarcon did an outstanding job of outlining his support of the project. Mr. Krekorian's comments are linked to this blog post.
The project will come before the Advisory Committee (probably later this month) and then back to the Citizens Committee (probably next month) for a possible vote (assuming they have a quorum).
We will endeavor to keep everyone posted. Thanks. (Thank you to Marc Stirdivant for providing this update)
