Summary:

Today firefighters successfully held the line in the area of the west flank previously threatening Pacoima Canyon. The northern and southwestern flanks of the fire remain calm. “We have not yet turned the corner on this fire,” said Incident Commander Mike Dietrich at the 5:30 press briefing. “This fire continues to be treacherous. There is more work to be done, and
we will continue the firefight until this is over.”

The fire is less active now in the area where earlier today it crossed a control line north of Chilao and south of Winston Ridge. An observation flight will assess the fire’s progression. A contingency plan is in place. Unified Command leaders from US Forest Service, Los Angeles County Fire Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department would like the public to be prepared and remain vigilant. There will be fire and law enforcement resources moving into the Juniper Hills area tonight and tomorrow as part of the contingency plan.

At a briefing for firefighters this evening, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Michael Bryant expressed to the oncoming shift messages of gratitude from families whose homes have been saved. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department thanks the community for their cooperation and looks forward to continued assistance from the public regarding fire and criminal activity.

Glendale: Dukmejian Wilderness Park

Angeles National Forest: An area closure of the southern portion of the Angeles National Forest is in effect until it is determined that it is safe to reopen forest areas. For additional information on the closure, go to www.fs.fed.us/r5/angeles/.

• Aliso Canyon Rd at Y8
• Aliso Canyon Rd at Angeles Forest Hwy

Pet Evacuation Centers: Located at Pasadena Humane Society, Baldwin Park Animal Shelter, LA County Agoura Hills Animal Shelter.

Large Animal Evacuation Center:
Antelope Valley Fairgrounds is boarding large animals. Pierce College can only board horses, donkeys and mules.
