Fundraiser Saturday September 12th for Vogel Flats Fire Victims
A special fundraiser has been organized by Wendy Alane Smith, Dr. Jane Hays, Gigi Schleuter, Susanne Passantino, and Nick and Mary Ann Berkuta for several Vogel Flats residents who have lost their homes and personal belongings in one of the largest wildfires in Southern California history.
The fundraiser will take place Saturday, September 12 from 9am to 9pm at 4545 Briggs Avenue, La Crescenta, Ca 91214 across from the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. There will be a Bar-B-Que and a Raffle.
One of the Vogel Flats residents is Eddie Gold who resided at 2338 Stonyvale Road. Gold is a former Camera Operator of hit movies including “Raging Bull,” “The Wanderers,” “Clara's Heart,” and “Crocodile Dundee.” At first, fire officials told Eddie along with residents of Vogel Flats, adjacent hamlets along Big Tujunga Canyon Road, that it appeared their cabins would be spared. But about noon Saturday, fire officials pounded on doors and told residents to run.
Gold was evacuated with only enough time to rescue his two cats, grab two changes of clothes and flee the scene. Everything he owned including his movie memorabilia, antiques and books he collected over a lifetime were lost as the entire house burned to the ground. More than 30 homes and other structures were destroyed in the remote canyon area. Others were inexplicably spared.
A first priority is to find new homes for these displaced people. We are looking for guesthouses to rent that will accept small pets. These people need EVERYTHING.
We will be collecting monetary donations for the fire victims. Residents who want to help rebuild the lives of these courageous people can drop by the all-day fundraiser and donate Cash or Gift Cards from grocery stores, Target, K-Mart, CVS, Rite Aid, Best Buy, Sears, JC Penny’s, Macy’s, etc.
Several Gift Certificates have been collected from local businesses including restaurants, Regal Cinemas, Macy’s and FastFrame of La Canada to be raffled off during Saturday’s fundraiser.
Employees of Aramark Uniform Services in Burbank are pooling their resources to help fire victims.
We urge you to support these people as they struggle through an unbelievable time. We thank all of the fire fighters for all of their hard work and offer blessings to everyone who has been affected by this disaster.
