Guide to the Medical Marijuana Storefront Ban After voters approved Proposition D last year, they sent a message that the growth of medical marijuana dispensaries throughout Los Angeles should be controlled. Since then, the City Attorney's office has been busy enforcing the city's ban on new dispensaries. They also created a handy information guide to answer common questions and concerns to clarify Proposition D means to Angelenos and the progress of enforcement. Those questions include: How will the City enforce Proposition D? What are the penalties for violating Proposition D? How do I determine that the location of my Medical Marijuana Business complies with the requirements of Proposition D? According to Proposition D, new medical marijuana businesses are prohibited from opening as the city put a lid on dispensaries after the City Council's 2007 moratorium went into place. Currently, the city has filed 70 criminal cases against dispensaries that do not comply with the law's provisions.
