My name is Adel Hagekhalil. I am an Assistant Direct with the Bureau
of Sanitation. I am emailing you as a followup to my staff's meeting
with your neighborhood council and to inform you that we will not
process the proposed ordinance as currently proposed until we have
reviewed and considered your input and concerns I would like to meet
with you to further discuss some alternatives and ideas.
We have heard you! Based on the initial public input, it was very
clear to us that more work and additional refinement is needed on this
proposed plan and more dialogue is necessary with you - the community.
This is very critical especially in today’s harsh economic
conditions. Working with you, the Neighborhood Councils and Council
offices, substantial changes will be made prior to recommending the
ordinance to the Board of Public Works, Mayor and City Council. Be
assured that we are taking your input and concerns very seriously.
Some of the areas that we will be reviewing based on the initial input
are:
- Applicability of the ordinance.
- Definition of high risk areas.
- Inspection and certification requirement.
- Connection to the sewer requirements.
- Sewer availability/distance.
- Cost and consideration of current economic conditions.
- Implementation period.
Over the next few months, we will be working with you to look at
required and reasonable alternatives and options that can protect our
water quality and achieve compliance with the law while have the least
impact on the community and homeowners. In the meantime, we are putting
a hold on any further processing of the ordinance as currently proposed
until all adequate outreach have been completed and the public issues
and input have been carefully reviewed and considered.
