FUN BIKE RIDE THIS SATURDAY!

FUN BIKE RIDE THIS SATURDAY!

Join us this Saturday for a fun bike ride for the whole family! We will be meeting this Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m. at Fire Station #24 on Wentworth Ave. just south of Foothill and the 210 Freeway for a fun, easy bike ride using the newly-installed bike lanes on Wentworth to the Hansen Dam bike path where it ends at Wentworth, a distance of about one mile. From there, we will ride on the bike path on the top of Hansen Dam from from Wentworth west approximately two miles to its terminus in Hansen Dam Park. We'll take a short rest and tour the park itself before returning on the same route along the top of Hansen Dam and Wentworth to the fire station.

For those of you who have never biked on the Hansen Dam Bike Path on top of Hansen Dam, you're in for a real treat. The views of the mountains, the Tujunga Wash, and Sunland-Tujunga are spectacular. You'll also be able to get a close-up view of the large lake below the dam filled and the surrounding wetlands filled with wildlife--views that you'll never see from the 210 freeway. This is an opportunity to see one of the largest, most beautiful natural areas in all of LA County, right at our doorstep.

This guided bike ride is open to everyone including families and children. All bike riders needs to wear helmets and observe bike safety rules including riding single file along the new bike lanes on Wentworth which is quite narrow. Although we will meet at Fire Station #24 to begin the ride, you are also encouraged to leave your car at home and ride your bike from your residence in Sunland-Tujunga to the fire station. We will begin congregating at the fire station at 10 a.m. with the goal of actually beginning the bike ride around 10:15-10:30.

The 4-5 mile trip will take approximately 1-2 hours depending on how fast and far you want to go, and how much time you want to spend at Hansen Dam Park. Some water will be provided...you're also encouraged to bring your own water, a snack, or sandwich.
