Graywater Use in Los Angeles

To East Valley and Central L.A. Neighborhood Council Boardmembers,

Here’s information in response to inquiries I received from the Greater Valley Glen NC and others regarding graywater use in Los Angeles, and the LADWP residential private water sub-meter program for customers who are interested in lowering their Bureau of Sanitation sewer service charge.

For graywater, as you might already know, the State of California revised its regulations this summer to allow residential customers to more easily utilize the graywater discharge from their laundry washing machine and one other approved source.

For private water sub-meters, since 40%, on average, of residential water consumption is used for landscape irrigation, measuring this water use separately from your in-house use can significantly lower your Bureau of Sanitation sewer service charge (which is based on your water consumption).
