Neighborhood Watch Recap

Neighborhood Watch 21 Feb Recap:

Officer Rich Wall & Officer Don Boon introduced Assistant Chief, Code Enforcement for LA Building & Safety, Frank Bush. He was accompanied by Inspector Kim Arther and Inspector of Specialty Enforcement Eric Jakeman (off hours).

Two handouts were given, one with telephone numbers and the other listing types of violations covered by LADBS. The distinction is made between Single Family homes (DBS covers) and two or more units which is under the LA Housing Dept. Specific trouble areas were discussed. The hefty fines that lead right into liens on property, including the new inspection fee when the inspector first arrives and finds a violation ($335) is helping with compliance in a big way. Discussion about types of issues DBS addresses.

Police Stats presented. Community was complimented by Officer Wall for the quickness of neighbors to report suspicious activity which resulted in an arrest of four of the most active thieves in the area who were caught with a stolen generator at the time of arrest, the one they were stealing when the alert neighbor called it in. The four were suspected of being responsible for a rash of theft from motor vehicles in the past months. Well done guys!

Transients in the park will be receiving a Notice to Stay Away soon. Next morning coffee with LAPD will be on Tuesday, March 6, 8-10 am at Albertsons Starbucks.  Next LAPD Neighborhood Watch meeting on March 20 at NVCH will be attended by our Neighborhood Prosecutor from the city attorney's office. Mr. Daniel Hackney from the Sanitation Bureau will attend the next Neighborhood Council meeting on March 14 to present the possibility of Sunland-Tujunga leading the city in the use of LOCKING Blue Bins.

Thank you Tomi Lyn Bowling for writing this recap.
