STNC Elections -- Candidate Preparation Session

The Panorama Neighborhood Council will be sponsoring a Candidate Preparation Session onThursday, March 11, 2010, 6:30pm at Mission Community Hospital, Medical Office Building, 2nd Floor, 14860 Roscoe Blvd, Panorama City, CA 91402.

They wish to extend an invitation to all of the Region B Candidatesto join this important session. If you are receiving this email, you are in Region B. The Candidate Preparation Session for Regions A and B was held last week on February 25, 2010 in Mission Hills. We thank those candidates that attended last week's session.



Dear Neighborhood Council Candidate:


EmpowerLA is a service of the Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. Since its establishment in 1999, the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment has grown into the nations largest and most innovative in civic engagement and community-based government. Through a network of 90 Neighborhood Councils, the City promotes public participation in government and works to improve government responsiveness to local concerns.


The state, federal and city budget crises are having a ripple effect in the neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Now, more than ever, neighborhood stakeholders need a way to make a difference in their communities on the issues they care about most: crime, roads and streets, gangs, and the economy.


EmpowerLA is all about strengthening democracy in Los Angeles. Its mission is to give everyone a respected voice in the important decisions that affect their local neighborhoods. EmpowerLA underscores that no one understands a neighborhood better than the residents, business owners, and property owners that have a stake and interest in the betterment of our neighborhoods.


Neighborhood Councils develop programs that complement existing city services, enhance relationships with the City family and fill gaps where their communities are in the greatest need of support and services. We are delighted to learn that you are a candidate in the upcoming elections. To ensure your success as a board member, we wish to encourage your attendance.


The Candidate Preparation Session will provide candidates with an overview on roles and responsibilities of board members and officers, time commitment on the board, workings of board committee’s, a glimpse into the Neighborhood Council Funding Program, a viewing of a Brown Act video as it applies to board meetings, agenda development and board communication, and a summary of key points on the Public Records Acts, Ethics and Bylaws. Please take a moment to download the bylaws for the neighborhood council in which you are seeking a board seat.
