NCRC Public Workshop in the North Valley -Big Turnout Expected

The Neighborhood Council Review Commission will meet this coming Tuesday, July 17 at 6 p.m. I hope you can plan to attend.

The stakeholder definition is just one of many recommendations for neighborhood councils. Who is a Neighborhood Council Stakeholder?

NCRC draft recommedation: "Plan to be amended to state that stakeholder status in neighborhood councils shall be open by self-affirmation to those who live, work, or own property in the Neighborhood and also to those who declare a stake in the neighborhood and the basis for it."

Should neighborhood council elections be organized as they currently are or is there another way?

NCRC draft recommendation: "Elections shall be held on a regional or citywide basis, with individual Neighborhood Council elections grouped by region on the same day or within the same week. Each Neighborhood Council election would still be a stand-alone event based on its own bylaws. The City Clerk shall guide the 3-4 month election process from candidate verification through training sessions, candidate forums and debates, and community outreach up until Election Day."

All recommedations are preliminary. Once the workshop hearings are completed, the commission will meet again to finalize before presenting to the City Council.

DIRECTIONS FROM SUNLAND-TUJUNGA: Stay on Foothill Blvd. as if you are going to Lakeview Terrace. Turn left off Foothill and onto Wentworth Street. Slight left at Sheldon Street. Right at Roscoe and left at Van Nuys Blvd. Across the street from "The Plant" shopping center, on Van Nuys Boulevard, south of Roscoe and north of Sherman Way. The school is on the west side of Van Nuys Boulevard, so access is easiest if you are traveling south. Enter the driveway in front of the school. Parking is available in the school parking structure. There is also street parking on Lanark Street, just north of the school campus.
